Irène è nata a Lucerna (Svizzera) nel 1947, e studiò come terapista d’arte a Losanna. Studiò poi arte grafica a Ginevra, e lì tenne la sua prima mostra.
Fece pratica in scultura e fusione del bronzo alla “Sir John Cass School of art”; ma continua nello studio per imparare nuove tecniche che le consentiranno di usare straordinarie varietà di materiali.

È conosciuta per le sue “Sculture flessibili” che si collegano ed invitano lo spettatore a toccare, giocare e ridisporre le singole opere.

Questi suoi lavori le hanno guadagnato un posto nella pubblicazione del “Who is who” fin dal 1989.

La scultrice ha realizzato molte commissioni di opere pubbliche e private, per parchi e giardini.

Nella città in cui attualmente vive, si può ammirare un suo “pezzo”, intitolato “Family Circle” nel Parco Florida a Paradiso, un’opera lì installata dalla città di Lugano.
Questo lavoro, però, deriva dal suo precedente periodo a Londra, e rappresenta la sua famiglia con le due figlie, che formano un’immagine di dinamica tenerezza.

Nel 1992, Irène Fröhlich-Wiener interrompe la sua carriera di artista, per intraprendere studi di medicina Orientale, e dopo aver conseguito il diploma in Shiatsu, la sua arte cambia: esprime una nuova trovata serenità e spiritualità.
Il suo lavoro diventa più astratto.
Le sculture si combinano con vetro soffiato ad acciaio e bronzo, come pure opere astratte, dove usa legno e bronzo. Esprimono il suo interesse nel rappresentare la continua energia che emana ogni essere vivente.

Dopo 30 anni di lavoro a Londra, la scultrice torna nella sua terra d’origine, dove si è stabilita a Lugano, nel 2002.

Qui, le sue prime opere sono un genere di basso rilievi, chiamati “Fra terra e luce”, nei quali la sua ricerca di nuove radici e la sua consapevolezza per luce e colore, trovano la loro espressione.

Nel 2005/6 il suo genere È cambiato un’altra volta.
È affascinata dalle persone, e attualmente sta creando mini-sculture che hanno un body-language proprio e trasformabile, individualmente, grazie ad un magnete nascosto dietro la testa di ogni individuo, e applicate su uno sfondo in metallo colorato.

Le opere più recenti, intitolate “Magnetic Personalities”, sono illustrate in questo sito web, e possono essere viste dal 9 Aprile al 30 Giugno dal “libraio”, a Mendrisio.

Sculptress

Irène was born in Lucerne (Switzerland) in 1947 and trained in Lausanne as an art-therapist. She studied graphic art in Geneva and held there her first exhibition. She trained in sculpture and bronze-casting at Sir John Cass School of Art but never stops to learn new skills to enable the astonishing variety of materials she uses. She has become known for her ‘Flexible sculptures’ where figures interlink and invite the onlooker to touch, play and re-arrange her work. These works earned her inclusion in the publication ‘WHO IS WHO IN ART’ since 1989,
The sculptress executed many public and private commissions for gardens and parks. In her current home-town, her ‘Family-Circle’ can be seen in the Parco Florida, Paradiso, a work that was installed there by the city of Lugano but stems from her early period in London, featuring her own family with two daughters forming an image of dynamic tenderness.

In 1992 Irene Fröhlich-Wiener interrupted her career as an artist to study oriental medicine and after receiving her diploma in Shiatsu, her art changed to express a newly found serenity and spirituality. Her work became more abstact.
Works combining blown glass, steel and bronze as well as abstract works using wood and bronze express her interest in portaying the everflowing energy in all living matter.

After 30 years of working in London, she moved back to her home-country and settled in Lugano since 2002. There her first works consisted of a kind of bas-reliefs, entitled ‘Fra Terra e Luce’, where her search for new roots and her awareness of wonderful light and colour find their expression.
In 2005/6 her work changed again, to express her fascination with people and currently she is creating mini sculptures that can be moved to have their individual and changeable ‘body-language’ thanks to hidden magnet behind each character head, and a background of steel, covered with coloured foil.
These latest works, entitled ‘MAGNETIC PERSONALITIES’ is illustrated in this website and can be seen from the 9th April – 30th June at ‘Dal Libraio’ in Mendrisio.
